HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) — The Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a body found in a septic tank overflow pond Wednesday evening.

Deputies were dispatched to 200 Meadowview Road Lot 8 in Rogersville at 4 p.m. Wednesday night. Upon their arrival, the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office observed a woman’s body in a septic tank overflow pond.

The residents told police they first believed someone had thrown a dummy in the sewage pond, but notified authorities.

The white woman’s body found in the sewage pond was clothed in a tank top, hoodie, and blue jeans.

Investigators did not find any shoes or identification, but observed a tattoo on her stomach. They believe the woman had been in the sewage pond for 2 or 3 days.

The body was taken to Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City for autopsy.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office at 423-272-4848.

The investigation is ongoing.
