County Mayor Porter has shared the architects rendition of the new Expo-Event Center and Fairgrounds which will be located on Tennessee Ave near I-40. The 160 acre facility will be 4 times larger then the current fairgrounds, which will allow for much bigger and better events. Funds from the sale of the old fairgrounds will go towards the new facility. Currently a Nashville based retail development company has an option to purchase the old fairgrounds for $12.42 million, with one of the requirements being they bring in at least one large retailer with a store size of 60,000 square feet or larger. Mayor Porter should know in the next 3 months if they exercise the option and purchase the property. Site leveling, street and utility work will begin on the new site early next spring.
