During the closing days of the 112th Tennessee General Assembly, legislation was passed to ensure better visibility of log trucks with 4ft. or more overhang. Starting July 1, 2022, log trucks
with 4 ft. or more overhang will need the following:

½ Hour Before Sunset to ½ Hour After Sunrise and when all other times lights are required to be displayed the following must be displayed on the rear of the overhang:
(This language is present law and did not change)
• Amber Blinking LED or Strobe Light
• One Red or Orange Florescent Flag
• One Steady Burning Red Light (federal law)

During Daylight Hours When Lights are not Required to be Displayed at End of Overhang:
• 2 Red or Orange Florescent Flags
• OR Amber Blinking LED or Strobe Light

TFA, partnering with the TN Dept. of Agriculture, does have a safety equipment/training grant that helps with cost share funds for Tennessee Master Loggers to purchase the lights and flags.
Please contact Candace at TFA for more information.  This legislation affects logs, long pulpwood, poles or posts that protrude 4 ft. or more from the rear of the truck.
