On Friday, Cumberland County deputies responded to Pomona Road for a report of a stolen dump truck. Orlen Proffitt stated that he was watching TV in his home around 8:20 PM when he heard his 2019 Western Star 5KK dump truck startup. At first, he thought it was his son-in-law, but after a few minutes, he got suspicious and went to investigate just as the truck was driving off his lot.
The dump truck was headed toward HWY 70 N on Pomona Road, followed by a pickup truck. Mr. Proffitt called 911 and left the residence in an attempt to locate the truck.
A THP Trooper made contact with the dump truck traveling westbound on Interstate 40 around the 292-mile marker. When initiating a traffic stop, the male driver ran from the truck and eluded the trooper on foot. THP called Putnam County Sheriff’s Office for assistance, where K9 units assisted and units also responded with a drone to help locate the male subject. The investigation is still ongoing and the male’s identity has not been released.
Mr. Proffitt was able to recover his dump truck from Putnam County.
