At around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to I-75 North, just south of Merchant Drive, where a pedestrian was struck by at least one vehicle. The male victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the following occurred.
A witness reported seeing the victim lying in the roadway. Shortly after that, the victim was struck by a vehicle that remained on the scene. It is believed but unconfirmed that the victim was hit by another unknown vehicle before he was seen on the road by the witness.
The victim did not have identification on his person and, as of this morning, has not been positively identified. The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination and identification.
