ROANE COUNTY MAN INDICTED IN DOUBLE HOMICIDE

Roane County, TN- Lonnie Dale Wright has been indicted after he was accused of a heinous crime in Roane County.

The Sheriff’s Department arrested Lonnie Dale Wright, in connection to the double homicide case which occurred May 17th, 2022 on Buck Creek Road in East Roane County, where two people were found dead inside a home.

The victims were identified as 67-year-old Steve Groover and 62-year-old Cindy Scruggs, both of Kingston.

On July 19, 2022, a report from the TBI lab was received confirming that Lonnie Dale Wright’s fingerprint was found in blood on a bill that was located inside Groover’s vehicle while he was allegedly looking for cash. Wright was arrested on July 25, 2022. He is currently in jail while the case is pending.

Lonnie Dale Wright was indicted and charged with:

  • 2 counts of First-degree Premeditated Murder
  • 2 counts of Felony Murder
  • 2 counts of Especially Aggravated Robbery
  • 1 count of Auto Burglary

His trial date is set for April 2, 2024.
