Thomas John Friedlund, 68, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2023, at Cumberland Medical Center.
He was born on October 14, 1954, in Moline, IL to Paul Friedlund and Kathryn (Schiess) Nelson.
A lifelong student of history, he earned his Bachelor’s in history at Carthage College and his Master’s at Murray State University. He had a successful decades-long career as a historical publishing consultant until he retired in 2019. He and his wife, Carrie, shared 43 years of love and happiness. He was a devoted father to Paula Butler(Jnani) of Los Angeles, CA, and Doug Friedlund (Erin) of Bossier City, LA. He was also a proud grandfather to Kayleigh.
Thomas was a man of integrity, generosity, and humor. He loved golfing, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends. He was always ready to lend a hand or a smile to anyone in need. He touched many lives with his kindness and wisdom. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, children, granddaughter, nieces Kathy Walsh(John), and Susie Maier(Phil), nephew Jim Oboikowitch (April), and eight great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jane.
A Memorial Service will be held at Bilbrey Funeral Home on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in Tom’s memory to the Fairfield Glade Fire Department.
