COCKE COUNTY, TN- Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Cocke County.

Preliminary information indicates that just before 5:00 p.m., an officer with the Parrottsville Police Department and a deputy with the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office observed a woman, known to have outstanding arrest warrants, driving along Highway 321. A traffic stop was initiated, but the woman refused to pull over, and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued until the woman, identified as Whitney Leanne Fox (DOB: 3/14/87), drove into a field along Fox Hollow Road in the Bybee community. As officers approached the vehicle, for reasons still under investigation, shots were fired, and Fox was fatally wounded. The Parrottville officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident.

TBI agents are working to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews. Throughout the process, investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General for his further review and consideration.
