Virgil L Black, age 84, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Society on Friday, September 1, 2023, after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on September 16, 1938, in Jacksonville, Illinois, son of Harold Black and Ellen (Lewis) Black.

Virgil attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and graduated with degrees in business and electrical engineering. He served in the army at Fort Huachuca in Arizona for two years. During that time, he married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Clausen. They moved to the Janesville/Milton, WI area, where they raised their three children. Virgil was employed in Janesville by General Motors and Gilman Engineering. He moved in 1987 to Nashville, Tennessee to work at Wright Industries until he retired.

After retirement, Virgil and Marilyn split their time between Fairfield Glade, Tennessee and Sun Lakes, Arizona. He enjoyed golfing, card games and traveling worldwide.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn (Clausen) Black; children, Eric Black (Jennifer Woolley), Karin McDonald (James Jr); Krista King (Mark);Grandchildren, James McDonald III (Sara Weiss-Cowie), Cristian McDonald, Mary Provonsha (Hamilton), Abigail Hammers (Ryan), Lauren King, Kendall King; sisters, Janet Stamp and Judy Becker.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Black and Ellen Black.

A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Sun Lakes United Methodist Church music program in Sun Lakes, Arizona or the Parkinson’s Disease Research Foundation.
