The Florida Gators upset 11th-ranked Tennessee at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville last night 29-16.
Florida controlled the game in time of possession (37:34 to 22:17 for Tennessee).
Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton III completed 20 of 34 passes for 287 yards with two touchdown throws and one interception.
Milton started off with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ramel Keyton to go up 7-0 over the Gators. The Gators countered with a touchdown of their own but missed the extra-point attempt.
Florida would score 20 unanswered points on Tennessee in the second quarter taking a 26-7 lead into halftime.
The Vols would score again. Florida kicked a field goal to make the final score 29-16.
A brief scuffle happened between the teams after Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel called a timeout with 9 seconds remaining in the game down 13 points.
Following the timeout, Florida quarterback Graham Mertz took the snap from the center and attempted to kill the clock by running to his right. Tennessee’s Omari Thomas hit Mertz when Mertz was taking a knee resulting in the brief scuffle.
