SPECIAL CEREMONY SET TO HONOR CROSSVILLE WAR HERO

A special ceremony will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, in Crossville to honor the memory and service of 1st Sgt. Milo Lemert.

The event will start at 10:30 a.m. at the city cemetery at the gravesite for Lemert. Activities will shift to the amphitheater next to Art Circle Public Library. The keynote speaker will be Linda Moss Mines with the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center.

The ceremony will be on the 105th anniversary of the death of Lemert.

The public is invited to attend.

On September 29th, 1918, Lemert faced heavy machine gun and grenade fire to charge an enemy emplacement. Lemert died heroically in battle that day.

Lemert was remembered when the Medal of Honor was presented to his wife in October 1919.
