CROSSVILLE/CUMBERLAND COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT TEAM UP TO NAB TWO SUSPECTS FOR BREAKING & ENTERING
Sixty-one-year-old Mark McKenney Shanks and 34-year-old James Stephen Meadows, both of Crossville, were arrested Sunday and each charged with aggravated burglary and theft of property in connection with a break-in on the 3600 block of Highway 70 East. The homeowner reported seeing a black car in her driveway upon arriving home Sunday, then she noticed someone running away. She said Meadows told her he was there to see if she was home and Shanks yelled for him to hurry and get in the car. The two sped off toward town. The homeowner noticed her television sitting on the ground outside the home. She was able to provide deputies with a list of items missing from the home. When Shanks’ vehicle was stopped on Underwood Street, Shanks admitted being at the burglarized home, but insisted he’d only gone there so Meadows could buy narcotics. Shanks said he never entered the residence, but Meadows was in there for about half an hour before emerging with a black bag. Several items belonging to the homeowner were discovered in Shanks’ vehicle, including the woman’s children’s ID cards and some of their medications, along with other items valued at over $5,000. Early Monday morning, sheriff’s deputies and Crossville police officers converged on a Pinewood Drive residence, where they apprehended Meadows – who reportedly admitted he and Shanks had entered the Highway 70 East home without permission; he further said he’d gone there looking for drugs but denied taking any property from the home.
