CUMBERLAND COUNTY DEPUTY DOES HUMANITARIAN ACT FOR DYING DOG

Yesterday, Cumberland County Animal Control received a ready op from Central Dispatch about a dog being
shot. Deputy Daniel Grove spoke with the caller on the phone about his dog being shot, believing a neighbor
shot it on his property.

Deputy Grove arrived at the home in the West Lake Rd. area and the caller came out of the trailer carrying his dog which had a gunshot wound to its face.

The dog was bleeding from both sides of the muzzle, gasping for air, and shuddering. The caller asked us to dispatch it for him since he
didn’t have a weapon to do it with and didn’t want to see her suffering anymore, and not having the
means to get her to a vet or money to pay for it.

After an evaluation of the injury, Deputy Grove determined it was in the best interest of
the animal to put it out of its suffering. Grove asked the caller to carry the dog to a quiet place behind the trailer and comfort her the best he could before the deputy puts the animal down.

After putting the dog down, Deputy Grove then covered it up with a blanket and had 852 add his name to the CAD.

The caller said he had trail cams in the area and would find the footage and area of her being shot on his property and call the sheriff’s office back to complete a report if needed.

As of right now, no charges have been filed.
