MAN FACES COURT THIS THURSDAY FOR FELONY RECKLESS DRIVING AND EVADING ARREST IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

According to the Cumberland County General Sessions Court criminal docket for June 11th, defendant Owen Ezra Skinner III is facing charges related to two separate driving incidents under the representation of a public defender.

The first incident, which occurred on July 20, 2025, involved a single-vehicle accident investigated by Deputy Nathan Lewis. After a white Chevrolet S-10 was found crashed into a woodline on Highway 70 West, law enforcement located Skinner running alongside the highway about a mile from the scene. Skinner admitted to being the driver, and after Deputy Lewis detected a strong odor of alcohol and discovered Skinner’s license was revoked, Skinner failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. This resulted in three charges filed on July 22, 2025: DUI (First Offense), Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage, and Driving While License Revoked.

The second incident occurred on February 13, 2026, and was detailed in an affidavit by Deputy Holden Atkinson. Deputy Atkinson observed Skinner traveling at 85 mph and passing through traffic. When the deputy initiated lights and sirens, Skinner fled outbound on Lantana Road, sparking a pursuit that exceeded speeds of 100 mph. Skinner eventually stopped at the entrance of South Elementary, where he was detained and admitted to “just being stupid” and running from the officer. This incident resulted in three additional charges filed on February 18, 2026: Evading Arrest Flight (Vehicle), Felony Reckless Endangerment (Vehicle), and Reckless Driving.
