ROANE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT ISSUES SCAM ALERT

The Roane County Sheriff’s Department is advising citizens of a phone scam. Someone is calling residents in the county identifying himself as Tim Phillips of the Roane County Sheriff’s Office and telling people they have missed jury duty and there’s a warrant out for their arrest. He then says in order to clear up the issue, the citizen must buy a gift card and give them the numbers from the card. This is known as a “jury scam.” If you get such a call, try to get whatever information you can from the caller, such as a phone number. After doing so, hang up and call the Roane County Sheriff’s Department at (865) 717-4700 or the Roane County Dispatch at (865) 354-8045 to report it.
