4.8 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE REPORTED IN NEW JERSEY
An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 occurred this morning near North Plainfield, New Jersey.
The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reports the earthquake struck around 10:23 a.m. Eastern.
Social media users across the East Coast reported feeling shaking around that time, with “#earthquake” trending on X shortly thereafter.
The earthquake received an initial rating of 5.5.
The United States Geological Survey later released a lower rating of 4.8.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Tewksbury Township, New Jersey, which is located about an hour outside of New York City.
Shaking has been reported as far south as northern Virginia and as far north as New Hampshire.
