INVASIVE TICK SPECIES FOUND IN TENNESSEE

State officials announced Friday an invasive tick species has been found in Tennessee.

According to a release from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, the Asian longhorned tick has now spread to 11 states, including Tennessee.

Two Asian longhorned ticks were found on a dog in Union County and five were found on a cow in Roane County. The tick has been reported on 17 different mammal species.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported there is no evidence the tick has transmitted pathogens to humans or animals in the United States.
