Alvin J. Smith, age 85, a resident of the Pine Orchard Community of Oakdale, passed away October 9, 2019. He was a former Corrections Officer at Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in Morgan County. Survivors include wife: Carol Smith of Oakdale; brothers: Bill Smith of Rockwood, Cecil Smith (Bobbie) of Rockwood, Clarence Smith (Lenavee) of Rockwood, Gus Smith (Ruth Ann) of Erlanger, Kentucky, and Arthur Smith (Betty Ruth) of Louisville, Kentucky; sister: Dorothy Wright (Thomas) of Spring City, Tennessee; sisters-in-law: Katie Layman of Jacksonville, Florida and Margie Smith of Oakdale; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday, October 14, 2019 from 1 until 3 p.m. eastern at Evans Mortuary in Rockwood. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery in the Pine Orchard Community of Oakdale.
