TN. LAWMAKER PROPOSES BILL CALLING FOR INSULIN TO BE MORE AFFORDABLE

Tennessee Senator Katrina Robinson has proposed a bill to make insulin more affordable for thousands in the state living with diabetes. Data indicates one in four diabetics reporting underusing insulin because of its high cost. The bill, if passed, would put a cap on the price of insulin for insured citizens. It would require health insurance providers charge no more than $100 for a 30-day supply of insulin for covered patients. Prices for insulin have risen 555% (that is not a misprint percentage) in nearly 15 years. Tennessee ranks 45th in the United States for the number of people living with diabetes, with 650,000 diagnosed and an estimated 250,000 who are living with diabetes and don’t know it.
