A collision between two 18-wheelers yesterday afternoon on I-40 eastbound near Monterey resulted in traffic backups for around an hour. Troopers say a 2018 Peterbilt operated by 52-year-old Edmund Garcia of Smyrna and a 2004 Freightliner driven by 33-year-old William Byrge of Fentress County were both heading east when Garcia stopped because of heavy traffic. The report states he was then hit in the rear by Byrge. Both drivers were restrained and not injured.
