GOVERNOR SIGNS ‘EVELYN’S LAW’ FOLLOWING PASSAGE IN TENNESSEE HOUSE AND SENATE

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed “Evelyn’s Law” yesterday following unanimous approval by the state House and Senate.

The bill increases penalties for parents or guardians who fail to report their children missing within 48 hours. Failure to report while demonstrating reckless disregard for the safety of that child would be considered a Class A misdemeanor. It is punishable by up to 11 months and 29 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,500, or both.

The bill is named in honor of baby Evelyn Boswell, whose remains were found in March 2020. Evelyn’s mother, Megan Boswell, has been charged with murder.
