The U.S. Geological Survey says a small earthquake took place in Rhea County today. The 2.1 magnitude quake center was a couple of miles east of Dayton and 18 miles west of Athens, Tennessee. No injuries or damage was initially reported. Earthquakes this small are usually not felt, but can be recorded by a seismograph.
