DEPUTIES RESPOND TO INCIDENT AT MARY BLOUNT ELEMENTARY

Maryville, Tennessee – At approximately 2:30 pm yesterday, multiple Sheriff’s deputies responded to Mary Blount Elementary School after receiving information that an individual was spotted with a gun in the parking lot of the school. The school was put on immediate hard lockdown. Within minutes, deputies located the individual and he was deemed to be not a threat to students or staff.
The SRO assigned to Mary Blount Elementary School was on campus at the time of the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation into the incident in conjunction with Blount County Schools.
“We take all threats to the safety and security of our students and staff seriously,” Sheriff James Lee Berrong said. “If we receive information of a possible threat, we respond immediately. Thankfully, this incident was resolved quickly and safely.”
