Jeanette Mee Powell, 103, of Oakdale, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Roane Medical Center – Covenant Health. Jeanette was a life-long member of First Christian Church in Harriman. She was born in Rockwood and raised in Harriman, growing up the oldest of six children on Byrd Street behind her parent’s business, Lon Mee Grocery.

Jeanette married Glenn Powell in April 1940 and moved to Oakdale where they raised two sons. After her husband’s unexpected death in 1964, Jeanette was hired at Roane Hosiery Mill and retired at 80 years of age after 35 years of employment.

Jeanette enjoyed cooking, crocheting, embroidery, and quilting as well as gardening and her favorite activity – shopping! Her greatest loves, however, were her family and her Lord, Jesus Christ.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents, Lon and Lucy (née Farr) Mee; her beloved husband, Glenn Powell; her brothers and spouses, L.D. (Bess), J.W. (Faye), and Franklin (Bobbie Ruth) Mee; and her sisters and spouses, Pernia (Bill) Martin, and Virginia (Paul) Easter.

Jeanette is survived by her sons and spouses, Ron (Charyn) Powell of Oak Ridge, and Gary (Linda) Powell of Oakdale; as well as her grandchildren and spouses, Christy (Greg) Halliday of Lakeland, and Bryan (Margarita) Powell of Knoxville; and her great-grandchildren Wyatt, Shelby and Jenna Halliday, and Gabriella (Jackson) Lane and Nicolas Powell.

The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:30pm on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at First Christian Church in Harriman with Rev. Nathan Williams. Interment will be at Emory Heights Cemetery on Monday, October 7, 2024, with Travis Mayton. The funeral procession will begin from Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman at 10:00am.
