William Thurman White, 77

William Thurman White, age 77 of Ten Mile passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was born February 8, 1947 in Wartburg and was a 1965 graduate of Wartburg Central High School. He later joined the United States Air Force where he served his country proudly from 1968-1969, during the Vietnam war, receiving an honorable discharge. Bill had worked as a Detective Sergeant for the Oak Ridge Police Department and was Sheriff of Anderson County from 2002-2006. He and his wife attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Ten Mile. Bill was an avid golfer and loved living on the lake and fishing as long as his health permitted. Preceded in death by his son, William “Billy” Thurman Jr.; father, Elmer White; mother, Minnie Longmire Sweat White; sister, Hope New; grandparents, William Hubert & Maude Clower White, George T. & Tennie Longmire Sweat; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Oplis & Mary Ann Stewart.

Graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M./CST, Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Dodson Branch Cemetery, 285 Old Dodson Branch Road, Cookeville, TN 38501, with Pastor Adrian Jones officiating.
