ASSISTANT D.A. FIRED FOR POSTS SUGGESTING WILLINGNESS TO FABRICATE EVIDENCE

Berkley Mason, a young assistant district attorney in Knox County, Tennessee, was fired on May 5, 2025, after social media posts suggested he was willing to fabricate evidence and bypass legal standards to achieve prosecutions. District Attorney General Charme Allen dismissed Mason immediately and stated that his posts undermined her confidence in his ability to uphold the prosecutorial oath to administer justice impartially.

Mason, who started in the office in October 2024, was part of the prosecution team in Knox County Criminal Court. Allen ordered a review of his cases to address any necessary corrective actions. This marks the second disciplinary action against a young prosecutor in Allen’s office within a year, following the suspension and resignation of another assistant DA for alleged perjury in October 2024.

Mason, a 2024 University of Tennessee College of Law graduate from Maryville, had previously interned at the Knox County DA’s office and the US Attorney’s Office, aiming to serve his community as a prosecutor.
