Mark E. McClenathan, 82

Mark E. McClenathan, 82, of Crossville, TN, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025. Born in Williamston, Michigan to Dr. and Mrs. Harold and Winifred McClenathan on March 17, 1943, Mark was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and Michigan State fan. He is survived by his daughter, Carla McClenathan, son-in-law, Joseph Raines, cherished grandsons, Jonah and Asa, and his sweet dog, Stella. In addition, Mark will be remembered by his special extended family including many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and the most amazing group of friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life, his wife, Dorothy. Mark was a proud graduate of Williamston High School, Class of 1961. He went on to attend Michigan State University where he was on the wrestling team, earned a degree in secondary education, and became a lifelong Spartan. After moving to the Grand Rapids area, “Mr. Mac” had a long career in education as a coach, teacher, and administrator, working at South High School, Godfrey-Lee High School, and Comstock Park High School. He completed a graduate degree in Leadership from Western Michigan University in the early ’80s. Mark stayed very active in the wrestling community, officiating multiple college national championships, serving as the wrestling rules interpreter for the MHSAA, and acting as the first Official-in-Charge of the MHSAA state wrestling championship. He was inducted into the Michigan Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1995. After his retirement, Mark enjoyed traveling to visit his grandsons, to meet friends in the Florida Keys, and to golf with Dorothy in their happy place, Tennessee, where he eventually settled in 2015. He was a Detroit sports enthusiast, a lover of dogs, Shamrock shakes, and a good cigar. Mark will be celebrated on Saturday, September 27, from 12-3pm, at Reno’s North Sports Bar in Lansing, Michigan.
