Ian Christopher Moerdyk, 40
Ian Christopher Moerdyk, born September 12, 1985, in Vincennes, Indiana, was the son of Tammy (Tislow) Moerdyk and Keith Gordon Moerdyk. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Vincennes.
Ian spent his first year living in Vincennes, Indiana before the family relocated to Emerson, New Jersey. Following his parents’ divorce, his father, Keith, married Janeth A. (Hurtado) Moerdyk, and the family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. During that time, the family grew to include Ian’s sisters, Stephanie Marie and Stacie Rosalie. After five years in Indianapolis, the family relocated to Crossville, Tennessee when Ian was nine years old, where Ian attended Pleasant Hill Elementary School and Cumberland County High School and Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. He was confirmed in his faith at SOTH and was involved with the youth group and was able to attend a couple national youth gatherings.
Ian proudly served in the United States Navy as Petty Officer Third Class. He had the opportunity to do a military tour in the Carl Vinson Carrier to Haiti and around South America. While serving, Ian married Nicole Dolan and they had a son, Trenton (Trent) Wade Moerdyk
Following his military service (and divorce), Ian worked in the telecommunications industry as a fiber optic line installer.
Ian was a fun-loving and caring individual who deeply appreciated the outdoors and nature. He will be remembered for his warmth and adventurous spirit.
He is survived by his birth mother, Tammy Swettenam; his sister, Nikki Grostefon. His parents, Keith and Janeth Moerdyk; and his sisters, Stephanie (Marie) Cantrell and Stacie Rosalie Selby; and his son, Trenton (Trent) Wade Moerdyk. His grandmother Rodean Ann Moerdyk and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held January 10, 2026 at Hood Funeral Home.The family has respectfully asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Shepherd’s Little Flock, in care of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 1461 Sparta Hwy, Crossville, TN 38555 in Ian’s memory.
