Charlotte Crockett Jones, 74
Charlotte Crockett Jones—a woman whose life was built on three simple but powerful things: family, strength, and hard work.
Charlotte’s story began in Crossville, where she grew up in a home full of life. She was part of a large family with three sisters and an older brother, plus a whole host of extended family members who were always nearby. Charlotte was close to all of them, but she shared a special bond with her sisters—a friendship that stayed dear to her heart throughout her entire life.
She learned the value of hard work early. At just 15 years old, she started working at the Midway restaurant. It was there that she met her first love, whom she married a few years later. By the age of 19, she became a mother for the first time, and six years later, she welcomed her second baby boy.
Charlotte showed her love in quiet, steady ways. She took great pride in tending to her home and cooking for her family. There was never any doubt about how she felt—she had immense pride in her two sons and loved them deeply.
As the years went by, her family grew even more when she became “Granny” to Connor, Reece, and Sara. Her children were her pride, but her grandchildren were her greatest blessing. They brought her a special kind of joy, and she cherished every single moment she got to spend with them. She lived for the “get-togethers” where she could cook for her boys and her grandkids, making sure everyone felt at home.
Later in life, Charlotte found a new kind of joy working at the Bean Pot. It wasn’t just a job to her; it was a place to visit with neighbors and reconnect with old friends. She loved being a part of the community and catching up on everyone’s stories.
If there is one thing we can all count on when we think of Charlotte, it was her consistency. It didn’t matter if you had a long visit on the porch or a quick five-minute phone call—she never hung up or said goodbye without saying, “I love you.” Those were always her final words. It was her signature. It was her way of making sure that no matter what else was going on, you knew exactly how much you meant to her.
It is incredibly hard to say goodbye to someone who was such a huge part of our lives. But the love Charlotte gave so freely doesn’t leave us today. It stays here, living on in her sons, her grandkids, and in all the happy memories we carry in our hearts.
As we say our farewells, let’s try to live like Charlotte did. Let’s work hard, take pride in our families, and never forget those three simple words she always left us with:
“I love you.”
Thank you.
