HYUNDAI STOPS SALES OF CERTAIN SUVs FOLLOWING DEATH OF CHILD

Hyundai has stopped sales of certain SUVs and plans to recall nearly 60,000 vehicles following the death of a young child.

The company said it is pausing sales of the 2026 Hyundai Palisade Limited and Calligraphy trims equipped with power seats.

Hyundai said the second- and third-row power seats in the Palisade Limited and Calligraphy models may fail to detect occupants or objects when folding or sliding.

The announcement comes after a 2-year-old girl from Ohio was killed on March 7, involving a Palisade.

“Hyundai is aware of a tragic incident involving a Palisade. While Hyundai does not yet have the full details, and the incident is still under investigation, a young child lost her life. Hyundai extends its deepest sympathies to her family,” the company said.

Hyundai is also preparing a recall that will include 60,515 vehicles produced in the U.S. and 7,967 in Canada.

The company said the recall repair is currently under development and, once finalized, will be performed at no cost to owners.

Hyundai is urging current Palisade owners to exercise caution when using the second- and third-row power functions.

Owners should avoid pressing the seatback button while entering or getting out of the vehicle.
