Layne Cordell Knowles, age 74 of Pikeville, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Pikeville, Tennessee on March 08, 1952. She married Earl Lee Knowles on June 20, 1969, who was her devoted husband of fifty-four years. They were blessed with one son, who was dear to her heart, Jimmy Lee, who Earl nicknamed “Jimbo”. She worked in several factories during her life. Layne loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Talking on the phone with her sisters was one of her favorite past-times. Layne always kept a neat house and yard. She attended West End Church of God in the past.

Preceding Layne in death was her husband, Earl Lee Knowles; her parents, Herbert Domain and Verna Louise Simmons Cordell; brothers, Larry, Landon, Loyd, and Lynn Cordell; and sisters, Lois Pendergrass, Linda Evans, and Loraine Cordell.

Layne will be dearly missed by her son, Jimmy (Emily) Knowles; grandchildren, Ashton (TJ) McWilliams, Rachel, Jacob, and Isaiah Knowles; sisters, Loretta (Bill) Headlee, Lucille (Bruce) Fields, Lisa Holloway, Cindi (Jimmy) Walker; brothers-in-law, Clyde “Junior” (Barbara) Knowles and Bobby Knowles; nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 12:00pm CDT Tuesday, April 14, 2026 in the Pikeville Funeral Home Chapel with Jacob Knowles officiating. Those serving as pallbearers are Isaiah Knowles, Donnie Pendergrass, Tony Cordell, Wesley Walker, John Headlee, and John Boynton III. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:00pm-8:00pm CDT Monday, April 13, 2026 and 10:00am until service time Tuesday at Pikeville Funeral Home.
