John Wick, age 84, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life defined by dedication to family, service to country, and a deep love of sports.
Born on June 1, 1941, in Black Lick, Pennsylvania, John was a proud graduate of Blairsville High School, where he distinguished himself as a standout wrestler and baseball player. His athleticism and competitive spirit would remain a defining part of his life for many years.
Following graduation, John served honorably in the United States Army as a member of the 4th Infantry Division. While stationed in Berlin, Germany, he continued his passion for baseball, playing for the Berlin Bears, proudly representing his unit and country through sport.
After completing his military service, John returned to southwestern Pennsylvania, where he continued playing the game he loved in semi-professional leagues, including time with the New Derry Tigers and the Bradenville Saints. He also developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors, becoming an avid whitetail deer hunter. In 2003, he was one of the founders of Triple J Farms in south central Iowa, a place he cherished where he spent countless hours hunting and enjoying time with family.
John built a long and dedicated career with Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Blairsville, where he worked in the nuclear division for 35 years. His commitment and work ethic carried him through a successful career until his retirement in 2001.
Above all, John was a devoted husband and family man. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Barbara, who passed away in 2022. Their life together was a testament to enduring love, partnership, and shared memories.
He is survived by his three children: Jason (Amie) of Waukee, Iowa; Jeff (Jamie) of Midlothian, Virginia; and Janine (Mauro) of Italy as well as three grandchildren, Hannah, Lorenzo, and Bodie. He was a proud father and will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
John and his beloved wife Barbara will be laid to rest together at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee, honoring his service and their life together.
John will be remembered for his quiet strength, his loyalty, his love of family, and the pride he exhibited for both his country and community.
