Carol Ann Applegate, 78

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Ann Applegate, age 78, of Oliver Springs, Tennessee, who passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026.

Carol Ann was born on September 21, 1947, in Liberal, Kansas, to Dale and Esther Abel (approximately nine months after the Roswell alien crash). She graduated from Hooker High School in Hooker, Oklahoma. In 1973, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Business from Fort Hays State University in Fort Hays, Kansas. During her time in college, she met David Applegate, and they were married on May 26, 1974, in Norton, Kansas. Together, they lived and farmed in Norton until moving to Amarillo, Texas, in 1986. Carol Ann went on to work in the accounting field and retired from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in 2014. Carol Ann was very active in community service through organizations such as Church of the Brethren Youth and Vacation Bible School, local 4-H, and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, and art, and was an active member of Beech Park Baptist Crafts for Missions. She and her husband enjoyed attending many seasons of Texas Tech football games together. Above all, Carol Ann cherished time with her family and especially loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Carol Ann and David also enjoyed traveling in their camper to places such as Yellowstone National Park and many scenic campsites near running water and beautiful landscapes created by God. Carol Ann will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord.

She is survived by her husband, David G. Applegate; son, Dale Applegate and wife Dottie of Guthrie, Oklahoma; daughter, Tracey Seymour and husband David of Waxahachie, Texas; and daughter, Tina Finney and husband Mark of Lenoir City, Tennessee. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Travis Applegate, Gabby Boswell, Macey Martinez, Daelyn Hedger, and Cortlyn Hedger; great-grandchildren, Tucker Applegate, Miles Applegate, and Cooper Boswell; and an expected great-grandchild, Baby Martinez. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Gill, and husband Mike. Carol Ann had many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dale Abel; her mother, Esther Abel; and her great grandson, Lane David Boswell.

The family will receive friends for visitation at Beech Park Baptist Church, 1085 E. Tri County Blvd., Oliver Springs, TN 37840, on Saturday, May 23, from 10:00 a.m., to 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service in the chapel. Graveside will follow at Oliver Springs Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Beech Park Baptist Crafts for Missions in memory of Carol Ann Applegate.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Pastor Robbie Leach, Jason Robinson, and the many neighbors, friends, and family members who have brought food, lifted our family in prayer, celebrated Carol Ann’s life, and shown the love of Christ during this difficult time of grief and loss.
