Leslie “Les” Dean Yutzy, 85
Leslie “Les” Dean Yutzy, age 85, of Kingston went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 13, 1940, in Arthur, Illinois, Douglas County. Les was the son of Levi S. Yutzy and Etta Marie Vest Yutzy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, George Leon Yutzy; and his son, William “Billy” Dean Yutzy. A 1959 graduate of Freedom High School in Freedom, Indiana, Les was an outstanding athlete and a gifted basketball player. He proudly played for the Freedom Aces basketball team from sixth grade through his graduation, developing a lifelong love for the game. He remained an enthusiastic supporter of Indiana Hoosiers basketball throughout his life. .Les honorably served his country in both the United States Army and the National Guard. In 1968, he enlisted in the United States Navy Seabees and was stationed in Da Nang, South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Throughout his career, Les held a variety of leadership roles. He worked at the Indiana Correctional Center in Plainfield, Indiana, served as Director of Environmental Services at Marion Community Hospital in Ocala, Florida, and later at Humana Hospital in Lebanon, Tennessee. He concluded his professional career at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tennessee, retiring in 2002. After retirement, Les embraced life to the fullest. He and Brenda enjoyed spending winters in Florida, where he loved camping, riding his golf cart through the campground, meeting new people, and sharing stories and laughter. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Les never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make others smile. A faithful Christian, Les was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Kingston and attended faithfully for many years. He also attended Liberty Baptist Church in Kingston.
Les is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Brenda Whittenbarger Yutzy, whom he married on June 8, 1974. He is also survived by his daughter, Nita Jean Botkin of Worthington, Indiana; granddaughter, Arin Renae Pruett (Chris) of Louisville, Kentucky; grandson, Ryan Botkin; great-granddaughters, Kaylin Botkin of Louisville, Kentucky, and Madilyn Brower of Terre Haute, Indiana. He is further survived by brothers-in-law Ken Whittenbarger of Kingston, Tennessee, and Ben Whittenbarger and wife Rebecca of Harriman, Tennessee; sister-in-law Mamie Whittenbarger of Harriman, Tennessee; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all those who have offered prayers, support, and kindness during this difficult time.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 -1:00 pm, Monday, June 8, 2026 at Fraker Funeral Home in Kingston. Military Honors will follow the visitation at 1:00 pm, in the chapel, conducted by the Roane County Honor Guard. Funeral services will immediately follow with Rev. Randy Griffis officiating. We will then proceed to Swan Pond Baptist Church Cemetery for interment. Serving as pallbearers will be Shane Whittenbarger, Justin Whittenbarger, Bob Sanders, Chris Pruett, Max Cronan, and Charlie Jones.
