Imogene Martin Pogue, 96

Imogene Martin Pogue of Kingston, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, July 23 at her home and was attended by her daughter and son. Imogene was born in Rockwood, Tennessee on May 9, 1930. The family moved to the Alloway Community of Cumberland County when she was eight years old.

She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Pogue, Jr., parents, Jerry and Hattie Martin, sisters, Geraldine Evans (Willard), Lois Spurlin (J. C), Betty Pendleton (Glen), and brothers Leland (Myrtice) and Wayne Martin. She is survived by her daughter, Loretta Walker (Steve), son Frederick, step granddaughter Alana Phillips (Brian) step great grandchildren Riley, Ella, Luke, nephews and nieces, Norman Evans (Wilma), Dwight Spurlin, Ron Pendleton (Tracy), Karen Spurlin (Richard), Stacy Ferda (Sascha), and Debra Wilkinson (Cliff).

Imogene attended Cumberland County High School and worked at the Rockwood and Harriman hosiery mills. She and Fred were married March 18,1950. She was a life-long member of Calvary Baptist Church in Kingston. One of her passions was gardening, especially growing tomatoes that she and Fred sold at the Honesty Fruit Stand. She also enjoyed Southern Gospel music and the early country music and humor of Knoxville’s Mid-day Merry-Go-Round.

The staff of Amedisys provided exemplary care during the last few months for Imogene. The family is especially grateful for the outstanding care provided by Tammy and Amanda.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 1st at Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston between 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Funeral at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Ray Bearden officiating, followed by a graveside service at Calvary Cemetery. Kyker Funeral Home of Kingston is serving the Pogue Family.
