Michael Shawn Coddington faced an arraignment in the Cumberland County Circuit Court on September 8, 2026, following a springtime stabbing incident behind a local business.

Court documents show Coddington, represented by attorney Jeff Vires, is charged with aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury. The charge stems from an April 11, 2026, altercation in a wooded area behind Mastercorp on US Highway 127 North.

According to an affidavit of complaint filed by Det. Sgt. Tim Vandever, patrol officers responded to the scene at approximately 7:25 PM on the day of the incident after receiving a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from a stab wound to the back of his right leg.

Investigators determined that Coddington and the victim engaged in a verbal disagreement that escalated into a physical fight, during which a fixed-blade knife was used. A witness was present at the scene, and Coddington himself reportedly placed the call to emergency services.

During medical treatment by responding EMS personnel, the victim briefly became unresponsive and was subsequently airlifted to Erlanger Hospital for further medical care.

Coddington was originally released on a $10,000 surety bond through Huckabee Bonding. However, court records indicate a hold was placed due to a failure to appear at a previous scheduled hearing on September 1, 2026, leading to Tuesday’s court appearance.
