André (Andy) Alfred LaCombe R.Ph., age 77

André (Andy) Alfred LaCombe R.Ph., age 77, of Crossville, Tennessee died peacefully at home on December 23rd, 2022 in the loving care of his devoted life partner Linda Waters after a heroic battle with cancer.

Andy was born in Miami Beach, Florida, and grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire where he graduated from Saint Anthony high school in 1963 and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.  He went on to earn his first college degree from the University of New Hampshire, after which he served as a Captain in the United States Air Force and was deployed to Turkey to work on the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS).  After his military service, he earned an additional degree from the University of Connecticut on his way to a career in pharmacy that he enjoyed throughout his entire working life. He held lengthy tenures at Windham Community Memorial Hospital as Director of Pharmacy and at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy as an internship advisor.  In 1985 and 1994 he was honored with the prestigious Connecticut Hospital Pharmacist of the year award.

He was a dedicated leader and civic organizer for youth baseball in Willimantic, CT for over 35 years!  He started as an umpire and quickly moved on to helping organize the minor league system and coaching the Dairy Queen little league team as well as multiple Willimantic Little League All-Star teams.  His youth baseball career culminated as a co-organizer of the Bigg Play organization which promoted the advancement of Willimantic youth by sending them around the world to introduce and play baseball in countries like Poland, China, Denmark, Sweden, and Italy.

Andy had a wide variety of hobbies and interests throughout his life such as running, sports card collecting, UConn athletics, fantasy sports, horse racing, and reading (especially science fiction).  When he and Linda retired to Crossville, Tennessee, it was time to pursue all of these interests and more.  They formed many close friendships and pursued their joint interests in hiking, travel, playing bridge, volunteering, and bike riding.  His passion for community leadership continued into his retirement when he revitalized and organized the Fairfield Glade bike club for all levels of bikers and was instrumental in the creation of bicycle lanes and safety awareness throughout the community.

Andy brought warmth and humor to every occasion and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Vivian LaCombe, his brother Paul LaCombe and his grandson Jackson Sawyer.  He is survived by his partner Linda Waters; his four children, Jeffrey (Molly) LaCombe of Reno, Nevada, Nathan (Charlotte) LaCombe of Canton, Connecticut, Derek LaCombe of New Orleans, Louisiana and Sarah (Shane) Sawyer of Danielson Connecticut; his 6 grandchildren, Sofie, Gwennie and Owen LaCombe of Canton, Connecticut; Isaac, Elara and Phoenix Sawyer of Danielson, Connecticut; his Sister Michelle (Dick) Boisvert; brother Larry (Tricia) LaCombe of Manchester, New Hampshire; and many more family members and friends across the country.
