Anne Looney Cook

Anne moved from Scott County with her family to the Cumberland Homesteads in 1945, the year she started school at Homestead Elementary. Her family put their roots in the community, and members today continue to have influence and presence in Cumberland County. She earned three degrees (BS, MS, Ph.D.) from the University of Tennessee Knoxville and made her career in higher education at the University of Tennessee at Martin. After 30 years, she retired as a full professor of Family and Consumer Science with a specialty in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics. Anne returned to the Cumberland Homesteads after retirement and, in 2010, was elected to the CHTA Board of Directors. She worked hard for many years to help promote the preservation and interpretation of the museums through different activities. At the Homesteads Apple Festival, she scheduled the storytelling performances in the “Spinning Yarns” venue. Anne continued to reside in the Homesteads on the Looney Farm. Today it’s known as the gated community, Homestead Place.
