The U.S. Geological Survey reports a 2.5 magnitude earthquake took place yesterday near Sparta in White County. Officials say the earthquake was recorded about six miles west of Sparta. It had a depth of about three miles. The earthquake happened just a couple of hours before a 3.8 magnitude quake took place in Campbell County and rattled much of the coverage area. There were no initial reports of damage or injuries.
