Thursday morning, Ashley Judd appeared on Good Morning America and revealed that her mother, Naomi Judd died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“Mother used a firearm,” Judd said. “That’s the piece of information that we are very uncomfortable sharing, but understand that we’re in a position that — if we don’t say it, someone else is going to.”

Ashley Judd also confirmed that she was the one who found her mother. She stated that she is sharing the news because she wants to bring awareness to the disease of mental illness.
