Funeral Services for Betty King, age 92, of Monterey, Tennessee, will be conducted on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM from The Chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Bro. Bill Barenkamp will officiate with interment to follow in the Welch Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. King was born on Tuesday, January 10,1933, in Overton County, Tennessee, to the late Govie and Catherine “Kate” Brown Whittaker. Mrs. King passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Mrs. King, along with her husband, owned and operated King’s Grocery in Monterey for over 28 years. She dearly loved all her customers and made many lifetime friends. She was a caregiver to many family members. She was a member of Monterey First Baptist Church since the 1950’s and also taught Sunday School Class for the 4- & 5-year-old class for over 25 years. She always greeted people with a smile and love. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Larry Vaughn of Monterey, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Bekki King of Monterey, TN; granddaughter, Kellie and Brian McCormick of Monterey, TN; great grandchildren, Luke McCormick and Leah McCormick; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Shirley Whittaker of Monterey, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, church family, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robert “Bob” King; brothers and sisters-in-law, James “Jim” and Phyllis Whittaker, Robert and Johnnie Cook; sister and brother-in-law, Mable and Demon Nelson. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
