Betty Lou Flynn, 96

Crossville Memorial – On June 18th, 2025, Betty Lou Flynn, a beloved mother and grandmother, left this world, just a day shy of her 97th birthday. Betty was born on June 19, 1928, in Cumberland County, Tennessee to the late Frank & Virgie Bolin Scarbrough. Betty grew up during and after the Great Depression, a time that taught her resilience and how to face hardship with grace. As the eldest of four siblings, she naturally stepped into a role of responsibility early in life—a role that only deepened as she raised ten children of her own. She passed on many lessons to her children, but perhaps the most powerful were the ones she lived out daily. As the saying goes, “You learn better from what is caught than what is taught.” Through her life, her children were privileged to witness how she navigated challenges with dignity and strength. She was the epitome of love, strength, and sacrifice, and yet, she also had a fun side, delighting in the joyful antics of her family. She found great joy working with flowers, where her green thumb was well known; and, no one could forget her famous fried chicken. She held deep affection for her nieces and nephews, always welcoming them with open arms and an open heart. Each of her children and grandchildren hold her in the highest regard—for the extraordinary example she set as a mother and grandmother. Her presence, her wisdom, and her love will be profoundly missed by all. Betty is survived by her loving children, Barbara & Gene Fitzgerald, Martha Flynn, Kenneth Flynn, Evelyn & Thomas Triplett, Cathy & Bill Patton, Veronica Janow, Sandi & Jerry Winningham, and daughter-in-law Vickie Flynn. Betty leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Bethel Flynn, her sons, Dennis Carl, Delmus Maurice, and Michael Wayne Flynn, and granddaughter, Leslie Janow. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Virgie Scarbrough, brothers, Hulon and Maurice Scarbrough, sister, Gladys Miller, son-in-law Max Janow, and granddaughter Leslie Janow. Her legacy will live on through her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will treasure her memory in their hearts forever. Visitation for Betty will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM CDT at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM CDT. She will be interred beside her husband in Flynn’s Cove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Ryan Flynn, Brandon Flynn, Jordan Winningham, Brad Flynn, Cris Janow, and River Adams. Honorary pallbearers include Jace Winningham, Racer Flynn, Kurt Scarbrough, and Rory Delgrosso.
