Funeral Services for Betty Thompson, age 81, of Monterey, Tennessee, will be conducted on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM from The Chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Rev. Harlon Thompson, Rev. Michael Swallows, and Rev. Darrell Harvill will officiate with interment to follow in the Phillips Cemetery in the Anderson Community. Mrs. Thompson was born on Monday, September 6, 1943, in Overton County, Tennessee, to the late Hobert and Opal Spurlin Matthews. Mrs. Thompson passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at her home. Mrs. Thompson retired from Perdue with 20 years of service. She loved gardening, needle craft, and attending horse shows with her family. She adopted her nephews and their families as her “own children” and enjoyed babysitting them in their growing up days. She was a member of Hanging Limb Freewill Baptist Church. Her main goal in life was God, her family, and her church family. She is survived by her husband of almost 61 years, Goodman Thompson of Monterey, TN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dean and Allie Neal of Monterey, TN, Ruth and Norman Looper of Monterey, TN, Sue and Matt Frazier of Cookeville, TN; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Brenda Matthews of Hanging Limb, TN, Rick and Gina Matthews of Hanging Limb, TN; a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Francis Neal Welch; brothers, Pat Matthews, Junior Matthews; and infant brother, Roy Dale Matthews.
