BILL GIVING SCHOOLS OPTION TO USE BLEEDING CONTROL KITS PASSES IN STATE HOUSE
A proposed bill that would allow schools in Tennessee the option to put into place a “Stop the Bleed” program passed the state House of Representatives yesterday. House Bill 0212 now goes to the state Senate for their consideration and vote. The kits would be placed in an easily accessible location and include a tourniquet, a compression bandage, a bleeding control bandage, protective gloves and instructional materials on how to stop excessive bleeding. The proposed legislation also require schools to provide training on how to use the kit. It specifies schools and educators would not civilly liable for possible injuries as a result of attempting to control bleeding. If the bill gets a final vote of approval, it will go into effect at the start of the next school year.
