A Blount County grand jury has indicted Kenneth Wayne DeHart, Jr for shooting and killing a Blount County Sheriff’s Office deputy following a traffic stop back in February.

DeHart was indicted yesterday on a premeditated first-degree murder charge, and an attempted first-degree murder charge.

DeHart is scheduled to be arraigned in Blount County Circuit Court on Friday (April 5, 2024).

The charges stem from an incident on Sevierville Road in Blount County on February 8, 2024.

Blount County Sheriff’s Deputy Greg McCowan was shot and killed and Deputy Shelby Eggers was wounded. DeHart is accused of shooting the pair following a traffic stop.

Eggers survived the ordeal.
