BLUE RIDGE BEEF PET FOOD RECALLED; SALMONELLA

Famed pet food manufacturer Blue Ridge Beef recently recalled around 5,700 lb of its 2 lb log natural mix pet food of lot number N25/12/31 with the UPC of 854298-001054.
The recall, conducted with the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration, is due to salmonella contamination that poses a risk to both humans and animals. Pets infected with salmonella may experience diarrhea, fever, slow and sluggish movements, vomiting, and many more symptoms. Infected pets can also transfer the illness to their owners, making it a serious issue.
In rare cases, it can even lead to severe conditions such as arthritis, and arterial infection which can be life-threatening.
Samples were collected by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture on the 8th of January and the presence of salmonella was detected. The FDA then notified Blue Ridge Beef on the 27th.
The products under the recall were primarily sold in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Virginia.
Those who believe they may have an infected or tainted product can return it to their place of purchase or dispose of it in a way that would prevent exposure to children, pets, or wildlife. Pet owners are also highly urged to clean food bowls and storage containers very thoroughly.
