Buster Dodson, 74
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend, Buster Dodson, who left us on March 29, 2025. Born on October 9, 1950, at White County Hospital in Sparta, Tennessee, Buster was an individual who truly embraced the essence of life. He was a man who enjoyed the simple things, finding joy in the daily rhythms of life in the town he loved. He was our first supported living resident in the early 1990’s. Buster was preceded in death by his parents, Von and Effie Dodson. Little is known about his childhood and early life, but he never married and had no children. He held a deep love for his community, making friends and connections that stood the test of time. Although he was very head strong, he was a person of few words but great understanding and compassion. People were drawn to his quiet strength, his unwavering loyalty, and his genuine kindness. As Mark Twain once said, “Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see”; this quote encapsulates Buster’s spirit. We had to figure some things out very quickly as we learned about his needs and how he communicated. Overtime, we, not he, made our adjustments and he flourished in his own, sometimes unorthodox ways. He watched people and he communicated in his own distinctive way, sometimes through laughter, sometimes by a groan or a growl, sometimes just in quietness. Buster had to learn to trust you, before you were allowed in his circle. He didn’t like to be pressured, didn’t like to be told NO. He needed to know what was going to happen and to be spoken to in a calm manner. He loved farm animals, a good cup of coffee, his toy car collection and of course a good meal. His staff loved Buster and Buster loved them. Buster would want you, as his family and caregivers, to know that he appreciated you. You watched out for him like his angels and he was grateful for all the daily love and care you gave him. He would thank you for your kindness, compassion, your care, and all the places you took him. You were a blessing in his life and he would want you to fondly remember him with a laugh and a smile for he is at peace. Buster’s life will be celebrated and remembered on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. located at 2653 N. Main St. Crossville, Crossville, Tennessee, 38555. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am CDT followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am CDT. As we come together to honor Buster’s life, we will remember a man who lived on his own terms, who embraced the beauty of each day, and who left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. Pallbearers will include: John Womack, Zach Prickett, Chris Simmons, Ralph Hofknecht, Jeanene Houston, and Bryan Sutherland. We encourage everyone to share their favorite memories and upload photos of Buster on his memorial page. His story is not just of a life lived, but of a life shared and enjoyed with those around him. His memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew him and will continue to inspire us all.
