Ms. Carolyn Haun, age 79 of Harriman passed away Wednesday February 18, 2026, at her home. Carolyn was born in North Carolina, in 1946, and raised to be an unapologetic Tarheels fan. After graduating high school, she attended Western Carolina University where she was a proud member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and majored in history – a subject that would become a lifelong passion. It was during college, while working over the summer as a waitress at a restaurant in Ocracoke Island, she met (and eventually married), Cay Haun. Together, they built a family and brought three children into this world. She would eventually also become blessed with five grandchildren, all of whom she loved with all her heart.

Carolyn wore many hats throughout her life, and she wore every one of them well. She worked at the FBI, serviced as a Child Abuse Special Advocate, and (which may surprise some) was a Beta Tester of new expansion packs for Blizzard’s World of Warcraft MMORPG. However, most people will remember her from her years working in the school system, as a substitute teacher and as an assistant typing instructor at Harriman High School. She genuinely loved working with students, and if she truly liked you, she might just pull you aside and share her best gaming tips for everything from Zelda to Castlevania.

In her quieter moments her hands were never idle. She crocheted, embroidered, and even briefly practiced the delicate art of scherenschnitte. She was an avid reader, a certified history buff, a wonderful cook, and spent countless hours lovingly tracing the branches of her family tree. But above everything, Carolyn is best known for her indomitable spirit and her unwavering faith in God, which carried her through every season of her life, and gave her anchor and quarter in her most challenging final months.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband: Cay Haun, Jr.

Carolyn is survived by her three children: J.C. Haun, Sara Haun, and Ashley Haun, & husband Thomas Mark.

Give grandchildren: Travis Jerome Kirkland, II, Khristian Kirkland, Katelynn Wright, Kristopher Wright, and Elizabeth Mark.

This world will be a little colder without her, but we take comfort in knowing that her faith, her warmth, and her spirit will live on, in every life she touched, every student she encouraged, and in the family she so deeply loved.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.
