Cecil Hill Underwood, age 84, of Decatur, TN, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Cecil was born on December 15, 1940 and was of the Baptist faith. He found joy in spending time outdoors hunting and farming, and he was an avid fan of NASCAR, dirt racing, and classic western films. As the owner and operator of C & J Trucking, Cecil, known as “Dirty Dog”, poured his heart into his work as a truck driver, a role he held with pride. His family was his greatest treasure, and he deeply loved his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents: Will and Gussie Underwood, son-in-law: Dave Burgess, and many siblings.

Cecil was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 65 years, Marie Jiles Underwood, and a cherished father to his daughters, Lisa Burgess and Amy Underwood. He was the proud grandfather of Jeff (Roberta) Franklin and Tiffany Franklin, as well as a great-grandfather to Wil and Wyatt Franklin. He was a loyal brother to his siblings and an uncle to several nieces and nephews. He was a father figure to many and a friend to all he met.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Freddy Cunningham officitaing. Interment will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery.

The family will recieve friends from 4 – 7 p.m., on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in the chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
