CEPICKY PROPOSES BILL TO PROVE U.S. CITIZENSHIP

A state lawmaker has introduced a new bill that would prove who is a U.S. citizen and who is not.

The legislation, filed as HB0011, says U.S. citizens would have different colored driver’s licenses than those who are not.

“The sole purpose of this bill is to attach a scarlet letter to immigrant and refugee residents who have gone through the legal process to obtain a Tennessee drivers license,” said Judith Clerjeune with TIRRC, “This would unfairly punish them and put them at risk of discrimination ad profiling due to their nationality.”

In the State of Tennessee, a person with no documentation is not eligible for a driver’s license.

If the bill passes during the next legislative session, it will go into effect January of 2026.
